Summary

Manages staff who perform in the areas of Business Programming, Help Desk, Desktop Support, Plant Communications and Network Administration. Oversees problem management including the tracking system, problem resolution, performance and user satisfaction. Recognizes new developments in information systems technology and anticipates organizational modifications. Recommends network designs and configurations to meet business requirements. Monitors data communications network to ensure that network is available to all system users and resolves data communications problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Consults with management to analyze computer system needs for management information and functional operations, to determine scope and priorities of projects, and to monitor system capacity and recommend appropriate equipment acquisitions.
  • Recommends and develops plans for systems development and operations, hardware and software purchases, budget and staffing.
  • Manages the development, implementation, installation and operation of information and functional systems for the organization.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors management information systems policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Negotiates and contracts with technical personnel and vendors for service and products.
  • Provides support to end users in the selection, procurement, usage and maintenance of software programs and hardware.
  • Reviews reports of computer and peripheral equipment production, malfunction and maintenance to determine costs and impact and address problems.
  • Develops, maintains and tests disaster recovery plans.
  • Analyzes departmental work-flow and duties.
  • Install, configure and maintain all network server hardware and related peripheral devices.
  • Set up and maintain all network server operating systems, including patches and updates.
  • Maintain all server based related programs that allow the day-to-day operations to continue.
  • Setup and maintain all the server based back-ups, responsible for the integrity data and the back up of all servers, operating systems and e-mail.
  • Set up, maintain and manage all communication systems for the company. These include internet access, e-mail communications, dial-in accessibility for remote users, high speed communication lines and Virtual Private Network locations.
  • Assist in the planning and expansion of existing systems including servers, phone system information, drive space, back up capacity and timing, integration of new systems and disaster recovery.
  • Purchase, install and configure all network related communication devices, including hubs, switches, routers, modems and any other type of network related communications devices.
  • Handle the setup and maintenance of our internal DHCP, DNS and WINS servers for internal systems and also the external information for use with the Internet and outside world.
  • Maintain security of internal network, including anti-virus, E-mail quarantine area and management of the firewall.
  • TCP/IP setup and maintenance for the entire company. This includes non-routable IP schemes for each location.  Also the setup of static IP’s for servers, programming filters for systems that need direct access to the Internet and shares or remote management software for remote locations.
  • Set up all user accounts, including passwords, security and access rights for the assigned domain locations.
  • Investigate and resolve user questions or problems with the computer systems or any related peripheral devices.
  • Work in coordination with network administration and/or network technicians to maintain network infrastructure, documentation and standardization for all locations.
  • Set & maintain department goals that reflect corporate goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises the Network Administrators, Network Technicians, Programmers, Software Engineers, Desktop Analysts, and System Support; totaling 2 employees directly supervised by this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree from four-year college or university in Computer Science or related field; and six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
