SUMMARY

The Quality Engineer role maintains quality control processes, systems and documentation for the plant. Provides quality assurance support to customer, suppliers and internal manufacturing cells and participates in continuous improvement activities. Works under the direction of the Quality Manager and closely with production management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for maintaining and following the current Quality Management System, standard operating procedures, work instructions & records in support of the company quality policy.
  • Assist in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system. Support the organization’s goals in the performance of daily activities.
  • Research and implement the tools and techniques required to develop and maintain company processes and databases.
  • Maintains and protects all company assets under their control while fostering loss prevention awareness. Maintain work area, equipment and all company assets in a safe, clean and orderly condition, fostering loss prevention awareness.
  • Supports the engineering function with regard to product realization. Review all related documentation and work with customers to develop mutually agreed PPAP documentation.
  • Responsible for developing the product inspection process, internal quality control audit process.
  • Oversees processes that control nonconforming product. Develops corrective actions aimed at reducing and eradicating the causes of nonconformities.
  • Leads statistical process development and analysis as well as maintains data collection system software.
  • Manages the company’s corrective action process to ensure sustainable countermeasures are put in place in order to continually improve both products a services.
  • Lead failure analysis and corrective action process to respond to customer complaints
  • Assist Quality manager in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system, such as 5S, lean methods, etc.
  • Support the development of training programs to build quality awareness
  • Support the Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system
  • Conduct audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions
  • Assist in creating and maintaining process documentation, such as Work Instruction, Flow Chart, PFMEA, etc.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing and managing the overall gage calibration systems
  • Develops, Implements and audits inspection plans, standards, acceptance criteria and procedures/work instructions
  • Update quality metrics and monitor key performance indicators for areas of improvement
  • Implement and lead projects to address improvement opportunities. Sustain lean manufacturing through application of lean principles such as root cause analysis, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, and Six Sigma with a focus on standardization across the plant.
  • Possess the ability and willingness to work all shifts and hours as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required or degree commensurate with additional quality work experience as defined below
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality control or manufacturing process improvement role
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IATF16949 quality certification standards and related requirements (PPAP, PFMEA, etc.) If no degree, then 5+ years’ experience required.
  • Proficient in the use of MS-Excel and data analysis
  • Excellent communication skills to manage customer and supplier relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
