EMP’s Smart Flow® 11″ electric fan is a high performance, long life, severe duty fan used in cooling systems in extreme environments. It is used in the transit bus market, off road applications, power grid battery cooling, stationary power generation and roof mounted cooling systems.
Brushless permanent magnet motors are combined with EMP designed motor control electronics to provide a high-efficiency long life fan. Brushless motors have no contacting parts to wear and reduce life.

Our SmartFlow technology allows our line of components to communicate in a variety of styles to meet customer needs.
EMP fans feature die cast aluminum housings for strength, durability and improved heat transfer from the motor and electronics. This allows EMP fans to provide continuous high output airflow performance in extreme temperature conditions. The fan blade and optional finger guard are made of high temperature, glass filled polymers to perform in the harshest environments.
Optional finger guard protection available that conforms to SAE J1308 requirements while minimizing airflow losses.
EMP fans are validated to withstand all field conditions including thermal cycles, salt spray, pressure wash, thermal shock, vibration and shock, electrical transients, ESD, reverse battery and more. Durability testing has surpassed 25,000 hours of continuous operation.
EMP has been producing brushless fans since 2006. Fans have achieved in excess of 70,000 hours of life in primary engine cooling applications where the electric fans are the only source of airflow for the engine. These fans are being reused on their 2nd or 3rd engine in many cases.
EMP fans are fully reversible for debris removal and heat exchanger clean out. The fans can be reversed using the control input or they can be configured to reverse automatically at ignition-on or at a timed interval. Fan reversal has been field proven in severe environments like forestry and stationary power generation to reduce or even eliminate the need for manual heat exchanger cleaning.
EMP fans can be run at any speed between the programmed minimum and maximum speed to minimize power consumption and noise. Variable speed also allows for accurate control of airflow and temperature optimization in cooling systems.
EMP fans are sealed and fully submersible for long life operation when exposed to the elements. Fans are validated to withstand submersion and direct pressure wash. EMP fans can be submerged while running without damaging the fan. The fan will simply stop rotating and continue operation once removed from the water.
EMP fans can be controlled manually using EMPower Connect™ Service Tool. The software in the fans can be changed or upgraded in the field using this tool. History data can be downloaded and includes hours of operation, temperature data, voltage data, calibration information, histogram data, and diagnostic fault codes.
EMP shows a flow rate that is much more impressive.
